Sai Baba of Shirdi has big devotees’ following in India and abroad. He is regarded as Faqir and Satguru and even God because of his enlightening divinity. He was followed by Hindu and Muslims alike, because of this he has influence of both the religions on his teachings. Sai baba’s Samadhi complex is in Shirdi Maharashtra on Manmad-Pune highway near Kopergaon and considered as top religious destination of India.

Baba was a Faqir and used to speak lines ‘Sabka Malik ek’ and Allah Malik frequently. He used to live in Mosque which he had named Dwarkamayi. It is said that he kept fire or dhuni burning inside the mosque he lived. Whenever someone visited him, he gave ash from the dhuni that people found to have healing powers. He practiced Muslim rituals and was buried there in Shirdi.

What made Shri Satchidanand Sadguru Sainath Maharaj a holy soul, is his teachings which was understood by everyone irrespective of caste and religions. Shraddha devotion and Saburi patience were his key words for impatient people. After his Samadhi or transition, he spoke to his devotees that ‘his bones will speak from his grave and people will throng here’. Prophetically, today millions come to Shirdi empty handed and go back with the blessings and hopes. He was believed to be 83 years when he ended his worldly journey on 15th October 1918.

Baba’s Sacred Body has been laid to eternal rest (Samadhi) here.  Samadhi complex and Temple was constructed by a loving devotee Shri Gopalrao Butti of Nagpur. It is therefore also called “Butti Wada”. Baba’s beautiful life-size idol is placed near his Samadhi.  All rituals, comprising of Pooja, Abhishek and the four daily Aartis are performed here. The set of Baba’s original ‘Padukas’ and ‘Satka’ are kept in the Samadhi Mandir that are used for grand Thursday Palkhi Procession. At Sai Baba of Shirdi temple daily rituals of praying are as under.

Dwarkamai (Masjid)

Dwarkamai (Masjid) Saibaba
Inside Samadhi complex, the abode of Baba where he lived for 60 years and blessed many visitors. His memories are living in his things like ‘shila’ a rock, ‘dhuni’ the fire, grinding wheel and cooking vessels are there for all to see.


Gurusthan Saibaba
A neem (Margosa) tree and the place around used to be referred by Baba as the place for his Guru. It’s said that if someone burns incense on Thursday and Friday all his ailments go away.


At a little distance from Dwarkamai there is one place called Chavadi. On every second day Baba used to walk in procession and used to sleep there. Every Thursday a grand procession is taken from Dwarkamai to Chavadi.

How to reach

There are trains from every part of India to Kopergaon and Sai Nagar. Shirdi airport has regular flights. Road network is also good from Mumbai and Pune.
