Kasol a Mini Israel?
New Kasol and old Kasol are parted by a bridge and the river. The shops, guest houses and restaurants cater to foreign tourists especially Israeli tourist inflow is considerable. One can see many banners written in Hebrew to attract the Israeli tourists. This is the reason it’s called ‘Mini Israel’ also. Kasol is being discovered by more and more people from India and abroad and is fast becoming the leading Backpacker’s hub.
Best time to visit:
October to June is the best period to visit Kasol. In case you desire to explore its wilderness then March till May offers better prospects.
How to reach Kasol
Air– Bhuntar 31 km is the nearest airport, flights available from Delhi, Shimla and Pathankot.
Road– Buses and taxis available from all the places.
Rail services are quite far off from this place, so its better to go by road.
Places to see
At a distance of 4 km from Kasol on the banks of river Parvati there is Manikaran Gurudwara. It’s visited by numerous Sikh devotees. There are many temples too that are dedicated to Lord Rama, Vishnu and Krishna. Manikaran is important for Sikhs and Hindu pilgrims. The place is also known for its Hot water spring. Here a Geothermal Plant has been set up on experimental basis.
An ideal place for relaxing, stone collecting and trout fishing, of course with permission from local authorities. One can also indulge in some adventurous river rafting activities. In fact, Parvati river is considered as the best place for fishing. One needs to acquire a special permission for fishing here.
A cool hideout where the road ends and fun starts for A tiny hamlet Tosh has few cafes, staying facilities and eating places. Here one can relax in complete peace. It’s infamous for the cannabis users.
4 km trek from Kasol to Kheerganga is an enchanting experience you would love and never forget. An amazing sight of natural Sulphur spring at the helm of the mountain with astounding scenic panorama is unforgettable.
Trekking and Hiking
The hilly excursion is incomplete when you hike or trek to the destination you have set to reach, when you reach there you a get sense of achievement. Kasol for that matter is the place where trekking fun never ceases. So many paths for trekking demarcated from easy to difficult and dangerous trek to choose from. Weather permitting, one can trek up to Pulga village and Chalaal the nearer one. Some associations organize the trek programs too.
Shopping: buy handicrafts, woolens, ornaments, semi- precious stones etc from flea markets. Also try famous malana cream which is quite popular among tourists. iSraeli food is another big draw here and you can find the same at various cafes.
