A person who is in love with hills and mountains, valleys and landscapes should definitely visit Haflong, Assam. This place is also called as White Ant Hillock because of its magnificent snow covered mountains. This place is especially for the nature enthusiasts and the campers.

This hill town is located at an altitude of 680 meters above sea level. And is also the headquarters of the North Cachar Hills.

This is the largest waterbody in Assam, and therefore a favorite tourist place too. This Lake is situated right at the center of the town and is just 9 km away from Jatinga.

Some other places that you might like to visit are Maibang, Umrangso, Panimoor, Orchid Garden, Muolhoi, and the list may go even further if you are opting for an elongated tour to Haflong.

Major festivals and activities

  1. Hegangi Festival

This festival is celebrated at the year-end by the people from Zeme tribe from North Cachar Hills. If you happen to be at Haflong around this time of the year, then you get to witness their tradition and culture in depth.

  1. Ruolsafac Festival

This is a harvesting festival of the Hrangkhol community which is also celebrated during the last week of the year. With this festival, the natives bid adieu to the old year and welcome the next one with zeal.

 How to reach Haflong?

The nearest airport is in Dimapur, Nagaland at 266 km. This airport is connected to Delhi, Kolkata, and some other major cities.

  • By Train

There is one railway station at Lumding, which is located about 60 km away from Haflong.

  • By Road

There are regular bus services to Haflong from Dimapur, Golaghat, Guwahati, Jorhat, Diphu and Newgong. But if you wish travel by your own car, then it is going to be a bit difficult, especially if you are not used to driving on such terrains.
